Songbird isn't seeing iPod Shuffle

On a forum that Songbird very, very foolishly took down (formerly at songbirdnest.com/node/3358), and only existed in Google cache as of today, and probably not much longer:

Well, I mistakenly found a workaround to this bug. Bumping in case anyone else has a problem.

If one deletes the iPod_Control directory on the Shuffle, Songbird will recognize the iPod the next time that it is connected. So far, I haven't had any issues, and music transfers and plays with no issue.

But that is the answer! Delete that directory, and all is well.

Hi, Thanks for your helpful tip about deleting the iPod Control directory but how is this done? Can you explain to me where to find the iPod Control directory? Thanks!

Hi Becky!

Plug the iPod in via USB and it should come up in the sidebar of Finder, where you can click on it, and via Finder delete the directory.

Hi Benjamin.

I can't sincronized my Ipod Shuffle with songbird... Do you know how to fix this problem??.... I got a PC with windows vista... I tried to uninstall the MTP Device support but didn't work out...

Thanks Benjamin, That worked perfectly!

For people who aren't finding the control folder, I had to change the view settings so that hidden files and folders were visible.
To do this in XP open the directory where your ipod is located
Click "Tools"
Click "Folder Options..."
Select the "View" tab
Select "Show hidden files and folders"
