Label nodes with their content type

In the node.tpl.php (example attached), Agaric simply added:

<div class="type"><?php print $node->type ?></div>

And the CSS:

<pre>
.node .type {
  float: left;
  font-size: 80%;
  font-style: italic;
  color: #714839;
  margin-right: 5px;
}
</pre>

This could be improved by adding the t() function to allow translating the node type into different languages (in Drupal 6 and later it should be the tt() function) or calling for the human-friendly content type name rather than machine-readable (oddly, that is not provided to node templates by default).

Note: Dan Hakimzadeh feels this should be put in the tabs line (view, edit) or after the title, as an icon.
