The Dvorak international layout makes Ubuntu as smart as a Mac for dead-straightforward sensible access to accented characters and other goodies.
It adds a "third layer" (after plain key presses as the first layer and after typing with the shift key held down as the second layer), and it puts all the international-style characters we are likely to use
So let's do it.
- System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layout Options
- Add Layout, By Country
- Country: United States
- Variant: USA Dvorak international
- Press Add
- Make sure it is selected and press Layout Options
- Pick something under Key to choose 3rd level
(Right Alt works on a Macbook, it is the right Option key).
- Type a ç with a simple holding down of that key while pressing the normal c. So sensible. Sadly it is not currently sensible enough to capitalize such special characters when also holding down the shift key.
