Wireless Problems on HP Pavilion dv6000: Ubuntu or bad hardware?Wireless Problems on HP Pavilion dv6000: Ubuntu or bad hardware?

Searched words:
ubuntu no wireless connection hp dv6000 broke
lost wireless after upgrading to 2.6.24-19
Wireless suddenly stopped working on my mother's Ubuntu-ized HP laptop.
It's the lousy hardware all by itself:

It's the bad integration with Linux:

Would appear to be the case. It's an update that broke it.
