I want to de-emphasize listing pages-- I'm not sure I don't want them indexed, and I certainly want them spidered so everything else will be indexed -- I'm tired of our own site coming up in search results when it isn't relevant, simply because so many terms are together on a big listing page (as for a taxonomy term).

Update 2008 Feb 6 Some hackish fixes here:
How to change the title of paginated lists of content to prevent duplicate results in search engines
http://groups.drupal.org/node/8571
Resolution
More like this
- Having a show all content result from SOLR as a filterable listing page
- Search from a Drupal 404 File not found page
- Site name with site e-mail (in return address of e-mails sent from the site)
- Preprocess from a module: removing the content author from Drupal 7 search results
- GMap sometimes not showing up on a custom front page call
