Presentation on Presenting

Emma Jane Hogbin's pre-Conference session, "Presenting You!"
http://dc2009.drupalcon.org/session/presenting-you-workshop

[paraphrased, I know it better as "...and tell them what you told them"]
Tell people what you are going to teach them.
Teach them.
Tell people what you taught them.

For a 45 minute presentation, can break your presentation into 15 minute chunks:

  • Context.
  • Content.
  • Conclusion and Action.

5 steps to a good presentation:

  1. Have a passion you want to share.
  2. Plan to communicate.
  3. Write a conference proposal.
  4. Practice your message.
  5. Present the highlights.

Greggles is sporting a hitler mustache... is he in hiding and unwilling to admit that he needs training?

Victor Kane, when asked: The part I'm most excited about is to drill down and zoom out, to see the forest and the trees.

It's really time consuming to find good images.

Flickr donated several hundred pro accounts, from Heather Champ.

Emma Jane: Spend 20 minutes presenting, and 20 minutes for discussion.

Christefano: If you don't need instant message [or something else that puts up notifications], turn it off!

Camera guy says that all sessions will be all online, ideally within 24 hours, and on archive.org with the dc2009 tag.

Emma Jane: Respect your audience.

Try to be excited, try to be engaged. If it's not going well abandon your slides and do something else.

Christefano: [Very paraphrased.] When I had to present after having food poisoning the night before and then being told that I had to present, I asked the audience for everything. I was in a haze and didn't remember where a setting was, so I asked if anyone knew. It worked, so I did it again. And again.
