Preparing Austin Project for a Participatory Society to Find Its Own Way

The Austin Project for a Participatory Society (APPS) found a volunteer to work on their site for free.

Agaric's prices are competitive, but not that competitive.

(We had encouraged founder Marcus Denton and the group to engage with the local Drupal community through the Austin Drupal group meetups.)

We turned over the keys to the shared account we had put AustinPPS.org on and set our participation at maintenance and service plan, which we don't usually do for sites we aren't developing, but hey– we're in solidarity with this group.

And after explaining how to use the control panel on the Drak.net-hosted account, we let them know something of Agaric's other capabilities and my interests:

We run dedicated servers which don't have that nice control panel but does let us do anything we want in terms of running a version control system, having the latest PHP and MySQL, using live and test sites, setting up mass e-mail to work with CiviCRM, sharing core and module code bases between multiple configurations, and sharing user tables between multiple sites (this last can be done on the shared account, also).

That's just to let you know that should you need to upgrade, you can!

As I've mentioned to Marcus, my interest - well, life goal - is a meta organization or network of organizations with democratically moderated mass communication and tools for collective decision-making. Currently being pursued under the name People Who Give a Damn - http://pwgd.org/ - our 501c3 application should be in by now, which we want to try to use to spare other organizations the soul- (and activism-) deadening pain of that process.

All that's just to let you know we're very interested in APPS needs, especially technological needs, hopes, and growing pains. Even if we can't help right away, we'd like to know where PWGD should turn its efforts.

Drupal as it is now is very powerful with lots of functionality through installing contributed modules. Feel free to ask us about what you're looking for.
