Drupal content type description won't change

it is a story type renamed to news, and the Description changed, and it somehow got stuck as this:

News stories have a title, a teaser and a body (the teaser is part of the body and can be separated by <!--break--<). News stories must belong to an action set.

Most frighteningly, changing it in the database changed this

There is a big table called i18n_strings which has all the:

content_type_name:story ja Story
content_type_description:story ja Stories are articles in their simplest form: they ...

stuff.

Yes, uninstalling the experimental i18n modules including content type and strings modules made it start working again.
