Grrrr, stupid white man

In the Future of Fields session, there were a couple questions asked before the sessions period.

The moderator cut off an Indian woman who had also gotten up to ask a question.

At a conference 98 percent male and just as white you do not cut off the Indian woman who stands up to ask a question.

Period.

Fairness isn't treating everyone the same. Fairness is not cutting her off the same as you (i sincerely hope) would have treated the third white male interrupting the presentation's flow. You let her talk and cut off the next questioner.

Grrr.

(Coda: When the long line for the official questions started, I offered to stand in line and get her the mic. She said she was going to ask privately later.)
