Easier to edit, keep domain name, professional?

[These were asked by a friend of ours who suggested our services to an organization where she was a long-time volunteer.]

So, if you were to remake the site, these are my questions:

  • Would it be easier for them to perhaps be able to edit on their own?
    • YES!!!
  • Would we be able to host through you guys and keep the same domain name?
    • Yes-- provided you know who has access to the domain name, it can be directed at any server (and for real, not just forwarded with masking).
  • A concern that the director had when I was relaying the information was preserving the professional nature of the website because it is a town-run organization and it reflects on the town. I assured her that if you say what you like/don't like want/don't want, it can happen. But, yeah.
  • So, my own question, with Agaric, are all the formating things just embedded in the setup of the initial site or ? And what is Drupal v. Agaric?
    • According to resident expert Dan Hakimzadeh, Agaric is a nicer word, but Drupal rolls off the tongue.... Drupal is the open source free software content management system that Agaric uses to make our web sites.

It is what allows us to do the formatting and theming and setup so that it is on every page, even ones made by the user, and to provide all kinds of functionality such as blogs and forums and contact forms and RSS feeds and photo galleries (with automatically creation of thumbnails and other sizes for the pictures) and more than you can imagine at the very affordable price of a little knowledge.
