User login

Ask Agaric: Why can't I post content? (Login issue)

To a user:

When you have to get the replacement login it's because you'd forgotten your permanent password, and your regular password is wiped out when you use the temporary login. So when you use the link or temporary password to login you have to replace it with the password you want by taking the opportunity to set a new password.

That explanation wasn't enough...

hi ben, nice to hear from you! i didn't 'forget' my password, once again i wasn't permitted to post content so had to do it -- as you explained last time it happened a month ago:

"You've just been logged in since whenever you logged in last time. But
every once in a while you will get logged out, and have to log in again.
Mostly its the site's making sure you're you. ben"

it'd be nice to not keep going thru this routine if possible!

Agaric answers:

You do have to log in more than once, the site just remembers your login for a while, but you do have to login again. Your password is NOT reset however, you just have to enter it again, with your username or email address, if you can remember it.

Again, every once in a while you will not be able to post unless you enter your username (or e-mail) and password. If you have already reset your password by using the send new password link, and did not change it from the temporary one that the site sent, you need to use that temporary password to login– or reset your password again, but this time be sure to put in the password you want after fallowing the one-time login link.
