Anjali's Web Site Plans

Excitement!

anjfp: my new job is awesome, new masters program is great, taking a break from competition for a couple weeks, things are good
I3IVIIVI: Yay!!
I3IVIIVI: So let's get a web site rolling...
anjfp: i was actually going to email you as my travels and meeting other athletes and things have given me a better idea of things for an athlete website
anjfp: yes lets do it
anjfp: im so excited
anjfp: you have no idea

URL and Purpose, functionality

anjfp: so i do want to get www.anjaliforberpratt.com or somethign to that effect if we can
anjfp: the sooner i know what the domain name/address will be the better, in that i am working on putting together an athlete portfolio to try and round up sponsorship, so if i can say oh and this will be my website, though its under construction right now, or something that that it would be stellar
anjfp: as for the site itself, most of what i had sent you before still holds true. im thinking main page, bio page, competition schedule, photos/video (right now i just have photos), sponsor page, and some sort of cometition journal where i can post updates from competitions, but not so that other ppl can post comments because sponsors will be going to this site i have to know whats going up there etc.
I3IVIIVI: Great (to ideas, excitement, and having no idea), and your domain name has been acquired!
anjfp: wahoo!!!
anjfp: haha, excellent

Colors, Look and feel

I3IVIIVI: Colors, anything? You can log in to http://ianforberpratt.com/ to get an idea of the functionality that comes by default
anjfp: so i guess i just need to know from you what you need from me etc. i mean we talked before about about it having a very professional look etc. hmmmm colors.... i kinda like the black with white txt, but i also like dark blues too perhaps with a little red and white (you know, since the whole USA thing)
I3IVIIVI: well actually Ian added the flashy photo gallery thing himself
anjfp: my racing chair, and therefore many of my pictures is orange. (illini colors are orange and blue)
anjfp: yeah like im not looing to put hundreds of photos up or anything
anjfp: its something where sponsors and fans can go and get an idea of me, me as an athlete, action shots and standstills you know

Simple

anjfp: im a very simple person as far as design is concerned, like i dont like things too flashy or difficult to read/navigate etc.
anjfp: ... who does like a website thats hard to read/navigate ? haha
I3IVIIVI: apparently, a lot of people!
anjfp: hahahhaha
I3IVIIVI: most of them on myspace...
anjfp: YES
anjfp: omg i hate that
anjfp: not a fan
I3IVIIVI: yay! We have friends who say we should start doing myspace mods. I don't speak to them anymore.
anjfp: LOL
anjfp: yeah, i would disown them
anjfp: lol

Example sites

anjfp: okay awesome, i think i sent you an email with other athlete websites, did i?
I3IVIIVI: yup
anjfp: here is another one from a teammate of mine: http://www.aprilholmes.com/index.php

[From earlier
Here are a sampling of athlete websites:
(of people i personally know haha)

http://www.tylerwalker.org/
http://www.saulmendoza.org/
http://www.chantalpetitclerc.com/2003-2004/intro.php ]

US Olympic Committee permissions needed

anjfp: and i have to get some permission from USOC for copyright purposes of using me in olympic/usa gear etc. which i can definitely do, it should not be an issue at all
anjfp: but you have to formally request permission etc.
anjfp: because technically, they own me hahaha
I3IVIIVI: we'll do the web site about breaking out of modern day slavery later
anjfp: haha
anjfp: fair enough

Possibility of commission for landing sponsors

I3IVIIVI: and now in the small print you sign over 50% of all future promotional deals, winnings, earned income and loose change found on the street.
anjfp: haha you are too funny. you do know that elite wheelchair racers do NOT make the big bucks
I3IVIIVI: That's why we threw on earned income and loose change...
anjfp: lol
I3IVIIVI: And I think you'll be the breakout highly paid wheelchair racer.
anjfp: thanks. if i move to canada i would be
anjfp: they make a ton
anjfp: elite makes 1500/month
I3IVIIVI: that's ridiculous then, we can definitely do that here
I3IVIIVI: But if you get sponsored by Nike or Wal-Mart, take their money and trash their labor policies
anjfp: ps im already pseudo sponsored by nike, in that they sponsor USOC
anjfp: but april holmes, the website i just sent you has a KILLER nike sponsorship, like as an indivisual
anjfp: she is the first woman to have her own line thru nike, its crazy
anjfp: she gets $20,000 each year in apparel alone
I3IVIIVI: Seriously though, we're starting a promotional dept. of Agaric Design Collective, and could try to get you what is surely possible in a country the size of the U.S. with as many companies needing to improve their image as we have.
anjfp: absolutely tho to your last comment
anjfp: any help you can is greatly appreciated
anjfp: i mean i think the potential is there its just a matter of tapping into it etc
I3IVIIVI: What would the cut be for landing a sponsorship? My friends (Dimitrius, Danielle, Gus, not that you know any of them) could totally do some serious work on this
I3IVIIVI: not to mention some kid I know named Ian
anjfp: off hand, i dont know. i am in the process of learning a lot of this as i go, but can i get back to you with an answer? im sure we can work something out that would benefit us both for sure
I3IVIIVI: Sure, I have no idea either

Not single signon with Ian, no comments or interactive stuff for now

I3IVIIVI: 1) you decide whether you want to be on single-signon with Ian's site (no one would need to know) or not (we'd put you on a different server)
anjfp: what do you mean by that, like they'd have to go thru ianforberpratt.com to get to my site or ?
I3IVIIVI: nope, if they registered with you, and you sent them over to Ian's, they'd be logged in already
anjfp: or is it just a technical distinction that has no real bearing on how ppl get to my site, it sjust where it is housed?
I3IVIIVI: and vice versa
anjfp: what do you mean by logged in tho
I3IVIIVI: signed in, perchance to comment
I3IVIIVI: or blog, or whatever
anjfp: right, okay.... well, im not sure i want to open the can of worms of having to manage comments or other ppls comments to my blog or whatever
anjfp: becuase, it will be widespread and it can be hard to filter out etc. if that makes sense
I3IVIIVI: ok, we'll just put you on our own server then, and basically not plan to have people log in
anjfp: okay good plan

Communication Notes

I3IVIIVI: do you do IRC?
anjfp: i havent in many years
